I am an independent researcher and freelance writer, translator and curator. My research interests include Surrealism and natural history; the wunderkammer in contemporary art and museum display; the cultural history of natural objects; and practices of collecting and display from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries.
I have held postdoctoral fellowships from the Henry Moore Foundation (2009-10) and the British Academy (2010-13). Between 2006 and 2015, I have taught undergraduate courses in Art History and Visual Studies at the University of Manchester. I am the curator of the exhibition Coral: Something Rich and Strange at Manchester Museum (29 November 2013-16 March 2014).
I am currently an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at Manchester, working on my monograph, Coral: A Cultural History, which is forthcoming with Reaktion Books.
